WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University volleyball team overpowered West Virginia Tech Tuesday night in the Hilltoppers’ home opener at the ASRC.
Coach Brooke Turner’s hosts improved to 4-1 on the young season with a three-game sweep of the NAIA Golden Bears (0-8) by scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-7.
Melissa Pierzchala chalked up a double-double for West Liberty with 11 kills and 11 digs. Brittany Albanese had a match-high 18 assists while Jennifer Torrence topped all players with 15 digs.
The Hilltoppers go back on the road this weekend when they compete in the University of Charleston Invitational. West Liberty will meet Belmont Abbey (N.C.) and King (Tenn.) on Friday before closing out the event with Saturday matches against Converse (S.C.) and UNC-Pembroke.
